POCEEDINGS OF THE NIGERIAN SENATE OF TUESDAY, 29TH OCTOBER, 2019

Welcome to a new Legislative Day in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan PhD, CON led the Principal Officers into the chambers; took the official prayers; and began the day’s proceedings at 10:44am.

‪Senator Tolu Odebiyi moved for the approval of votes and proceedings of Tuesday, 15th October 2019. Senator kola Balogun seconded.‬

‪EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATION ‬

‪Senate President, Ahmad Lawan PhD, CON read a letter from Mr. President on the confirmation of appointment of 16 nominees as Board members of Niger Delta Development Commission.‬

‪Senate President, Ahmad Lawan PhD, CON referred the executive communication to the Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission to report in a week.‬

‪Senate President, Ahmad Lawan PhD, CON read a letter from Mr. President on his request for confirmation of appointment of 3 states nominees as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).‬

‪Senate President, Ahmad Lawan PhD, CON referred the executive communication to the Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to report in a week.‬

‪Senate President, Ahmad Lawan PhD, CON read a letter from Mr. President on his request for confirmation of Hon. Justice J.T Tsoho as Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.‬

‪Senate President, Ahmad Lawan PhD, CON referred the executive communication to the Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters to report in a week.‬

‪Senate President, Ahmad Lawan PhD, CON read a letter from Mr. President on his request for confirmation of Hon. Justice Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip as President of National Industrial Court of Nigeria.‬

‪Senate President, Ahmad Lawan PhD, CON referred the executive communication to the Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters to report in a week.‬

‪POINT OF ORDER‬

‪Senator Abubakar Kyari cited Orders 42 & 52 and informed the Senate on the recent increase in registration and other fees in the University of Maiduguri, Borno State.‬

‪Senate resolved to:‬

1. ‪Mandate the Committee on Tertiary Institution and TETFUND to engage the management of University of Maiduguri to take action on the increment to enable the Committee carry out investigation on the matter in a bit to find a lasting solution and to report in two (2) weeks; and ‬

2. ‪National University Commission and Ministry of Education should harmonize sub charges in Nigeria Tertiary Institutions.‬

‪Senator Chukwuka Utazi cited Order 43 and drew the attention of Senate to abandoned projects in National Health Care Development Agency in Nigeria.‬

Senate adjourns plenary to Tuesday, 5th November, 2019 to enable Senate Committees engage the MDAs on the 2019 Appropriations Bill and Appropriations Committee meet with Sub- Committees on the budget Defence.
