Anti Corruption and Fin. Crimes Committee Chaired by Senator Kwari Briefs Appropriation Committee
Senate Committee on Appropriations Chaired by Senator Barau Jibrin met with its subcommittee; Committee on Anti Corruption and Financial Crimes Chaired by Senator Kwari Suleiman Abdu.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during the budget exercise accepted that some of the figures were on the high side and some provisions were also not very much adequate. The Committee made some adjustments within the allowed limit provided by the Appropriations Committee.”- Senator Kwari Suleiman Abdu.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also came with request for additional funds because of the peculiarly of their mandate. We also received from them, an upward review of overheads in terms of N350million for maintenance of their newly constructed office which Julius Berger is to continue maintaining over a period of time.”- Senator Kwari Suleiman Abdu.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also requested for more funding in respect of the house they occupy on Awolowo Road in Ikoyi, Lagos State, due to its dilapidated state.”- Senator Kwari Suleiman Abdu.
“Your report is well put together and self explanatory.”- Senator Barau Jibrin (Chairman, Committee on Appropriation).
“Independent Corrupt Practices Commission’s approved budget is N5.9billion. They have an overall performance of 88%; everything that was brought in was retained and no additional fund was requested.”- Senator Kwari Suleiman Abdu.
“On harmonization, Your counterparts in the House of Representatives did not attest his signature and I would not act on it until it is signed by the House Committee Chairman on Anti-Corruption. This is however a wonderful job Senator Kwari Suleiman Abdu.”- Senator Barau Jibrin.
“My concern is with the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), the capital of the agency is N4.2billion. The agency should be given a proper structure for them to function effectively.”- Senator Rochas Okorocha.
Senate Committee on Appropriations met with its subcommittee; Committee on Communications, ICT and Cybercrime Chaired by Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu presented the report of the Committee.
“A very good report; there is no ambiguity in the figures and well put together. We are proud of you as a member of the appropriations committee, we call on other Committee Chairmen to take a cue from your presentation.”- Senator Barau Jibrin.
